Well another winter CSFTA HFT league season has come and gone and I’m struggling to remember how many I’ve now shot in over the years. I’m guessing it must be about 8 and that’s without a break. I can’t deny that a couple of years off wouldn't go amiss, in fact I wasn't overly keen to shoot this season but felt that as numbers were down, someone of impeccable experience should take the reigns, unfortunately for me, no one else was available so I was duly commandeered as team captain. I am pleased I did enter, as this years team members have been an absolute inspiration. Made up from a couple of remnants from last year's A team (Simon and myself), Sean from last years B team and "new comers" Rachel and Darrell Waite and Nigel Veitch. We were the new and only team fielded from BARPC, a shame in the respect that since I have been representing the club, we have had a minimum of two teams each year. Still maybe next year we can get that second team back. Sean's write ups following each round give the gory details (usually with me being beaten by a point or two by Rachel and getting dropped on no less than two or was it three occasions) and apart from only one round, we won every time! The courses followed a different format this year, with a more forgiving theme not, to my mind, unlike the UKAHFT format. This format was possibly more forgiving to the other members of the team, but I found it more difficult and looking at my last two scores at Basingstoke and Meon, it appears that I favour the more twiggy and demanding courses of a traditional CSFTA course. The rest of the team however had no such qualms and shot each round with superb accuracy and enthusiasm.
The last round at Meon was without doubt the most physical of all the shoots requiring some obscure body positions, not particularly forgiving of those of us with less than athletic builds. Rachel, as Sean has pointed out in his write up, swapped her rifle for my camera and took some excellent photos which will be on the website soon. This was probably a good move on her behalf as I'm sure we would have had great pleasure in informing the soon to be latest addition to the Waite family, just what mum had put him/her through during the season.
So, my own thanks and it should be said, those of the club go to Rachel, Darrell, Sean, Nigel and Simon for making this such a memorable season. You’ve done yourselves and the club proud and I'm honoured to have been able to share the experience with you and for making BARPC the worthy winners of Division two!
Roll on next year… I think.
